Enjoy the brand new Justice Is Coming collage. It's exactly like the old one, but Joey Bosa has been replaced with Ladd McConkey. I can't believe I haven't written anything since January. Then again, that loss in Houston really stung. I've also never shied away from the fact that I don't really enjoy all the draft hoopla.
I know how important the draft is for the Chargers, however. I do still wonder if they have put too much pressure on hitting on every pick again. I was one of the people freaking the fuck out when they picked Joe Alt. To their credit, they never leaked that they were going with him at #5. I get the impression that they had any intention of doing anything else with the pick. It was reminiscent of when we drafted the aforementioned Bosa in 2016. Telesco still hasn't revealed what they offer was to Tom Brady in 2020.
Becton was the pickup that calmed us all down. It was a Friday night and it seemed like every possible guard had been signed. I wondered if Hortiz and Harbaugh even felt like we needed a guard. Yet, Becton was in LA to sign his contract at that point. I will keep reminding myself that these guys do indeed have a plan.
The biggest takeaway from the playoff loss was that Herbert needs weapons and real pass protection. The optimist could say that the Chargers aren't forced into taking any one position. I suppose that is the strategy that Popper has been stressing all season long. It's about "building out your roster" so you can take the best player available. When did BPA become a thing? It was probably around the time that every position got its own "room."
If there really is a receiver room in Sofi, can we leave Quentin Johnston in it? I know I said he'd never overcome the drop against the Ravens. It seemed like he did, but his performance (or lack thereof) can't be forgotten.
He has to be #3 at best until it's time to get rid of him.
Need some real weapons. That’s all I have to say for now
