We're All Confused, What's To Lose?

Yes, I do know most of the people in the crowd.

It's Jerry Week and the Chargers are in full swing of training camp. They just suffered the first injury scare of the summer, which thankfully appears to be nothing. Can you imagine if Slater got seriously hurt again during a practice in SAN DIEGO? The curse talk would be through the roof. As I always say, people who say the Spanos family has cursed the team forget that we didn't win a Super Bowl with Gene Klein as the owner.

I know it's been a LONG time since I got behind the keyboard since the draft. Things have been hectic. However, I can announce that I am going to the game against Denver Columbus Day weekend. If any members of The Legion of the Lightning Bolt are around, please feel free to hit me up. My son and I will be in LA.

Yes, I do expect to be banned from Justin Herbert's wedding if he gets married here on Long Island. Seriously, congrats to him and to Ladd for becoming an expecting father. The Vita Vea trade talk is interesting. I don't think Hortiz is against bringing in a star player. Yes, he likes to maximize the money with more players than less. Yes, I think sometimes getting "more swings" is less important than acquiring a star. But they did try to trade for Davante Adams two years ago and made offers to Alec Pierce and the kid from Seattle. We don't know what the offers were, obviously, but we can't say Spanos doesn't want to spend to win a title. He got Harbaugh, McDaniel, paid Derwin and will surely pay Tuli. We all are super focused on the line that McDaniel has assembled. Obviously, they would have saved money by lettng Pipkins walk. My issue with him being a possibility in the starting lineup is less about him being mediocre at best (he is) but the fact he gets injured every season.

Like I said, it's been a busy summer.

Anyway, it seems like McDaniel and Herbert are meshing. I do truly belive that no one wants to win more than Herbo and Harbaugh. They both are high profile figures and will accept the scrutiny that comes from not winning a playoff game, let alone a ring. But it truly feels like they understand that having 10 drop back and expect three guys running the same pattern to get separation in a playoff game is not a recipe for success. Yes, the schedule is harder, but that's what everyone said going into last season. When Alt went down for the year right before I flew out for the Pittsburgh, I thought the season was over. We all did. But they beat good teams and went 11-6 again. If they'd beaten Houston and Dicker made his kicks or Gadsen held onto the ball or they didn't let Stroud make two long touchdown passes, they might have had a chance to win the division. But their weaknesses, which seemed overcomeable going into January, were all exposed in Foxboro.

It will be interesting to see the team during preseason. I am sure I will end up watching all the games even if I can't see them in real time. I mean, I can with an illegal stream. I don't know if the starters should play at all like they did vs the Rams. It turned out that Johnston became pretty reliable after getting knocked out on what was a San Antonino Spurs-level dirty bitch ass play.

When I became a Chargers fan in 1978, if you had told me both the Mets and now the Knicks would have won championships in my lifetime while the Bolts were unable to I would thought it insane. But if 1986 and 2026 can bring titles to my other favorites, then maybe there is hope for the Chargers.
