Is Some Other Beginning's End

I actually saw Semisonic live once. They opened for Sheryl Crow at the Beacon. It was a great show and I recall enjoying songs beyond "Closing Time." I definitely had the whole CD, but of course this was before the Age of Napster. However, I was living in the East Village and buying used and promo CDs for like four bucks anyway.

I know, FAITHFUL READER. That's not what you came here for. The service I provide is simply to put my own perspective on whatever the Chargers are doing (or not doing). Right now, they are doing a whole fucking lot. It took a lot for them to put KC down last week. I will admit I wasn't feeling particularly optimistic when they were down by 10. Why would I? Also, even though I legally pay for Sunday Ticket I am apparently still behind the rest of the viewing world. This explains why my good friend Victor told me that Herbert had thrown a pick before I saw it on TV. The other explanation is that he can see into the future, but I won't entertain that.

I'm kidding of course because my son Aaron also called me before I saw Derwin's game-ending interception. I know Aaron is capable of anything but I don't think he was able to cross over into another dimension and tell me that the Bolts won and also ended the Chiefs' season. The poetry of Pooh Bear (no one remembers he said his mom gave him that nickname as a kid, probably because he hasn't brought it up since the night he was drafted. Needless to say, it was the best first night of Hanukkah I could imagine.

I am sure Tony Jefferson is fine with the fourteen thousand dollars he had to pay for his hit and this. I don't think he deserved to be ejected and I am sure the Arrowhead idiots were losing their shit on him at that moment. After the Colts game, I think a lot of people wondered whether the Chargers had enough blue chip talent on defense. Right now, the three-headed pass rush is making everything work. Unc has been amazing all year. Sadly, Modlen cannot keep himself on the field. Mickens was also hurt in the game and won't play tomorrow.

I know, I'm complaining again. It was also great that the game coincided with the finale to Welcome To Derry. I am sure you know what a big Stephen King fan I am since his "CONSTANT READER" references are a part of every post I write. The Bolts just keep winning even with all the injuries. As I said, I don't get caught up in what if Slater and Alt were healthy because maybe that's why this team has played like it has. Next year will always be there. Believe in now, as one of my Charger shirts say. That one was from 2008, another season riddled with injuries. I was sure once Merriman went down we were finished. Ladainian was next. I am hanging on for whatever ride this crazy version of the Lightning Bolts brings.

That's how I feel about tomorrow. I am not thinking about playoff scenarios, etc. Sure, it would have been great if Denver had lost. But let's keep focused on winning. The rest will take care of itself. Clearly, this team believes in Harbaugh and more importantly in each other.

I don't get to wear it very often. I bought it on December 17, 1995. I was at Boomer's on the Upper West side. Yes, the then Jet quarterback owned a sports bar in Manhattan. We weren't even playing Dallas. We were at Indianapolis as Willie Clark sealed a huge win by picking off Jim Harbaugh. Then the following week I was at the Snowball game in Jersey and then Harbaugh ruined my New Year's by knocking us out of the playoffs.

Did I mention the reason I was on the Upper West side for the game was that I was seeing Springsteen at the Beacon that night? This was the second performance of "The Wish" and I will never forget hearing him play "Does This Bus Stop on 82nd Street?" while hearing the Manhattan traffic outside.

Anyway, I would never have thought that Jim Harbaugh would be the one coaching this team back then. But once again, life can be funny and not always in a bad way. So here we are. The Bolts are back in Dallas for the first time since the Thanksgiving game in 2017. I want this team to get a home playoff game and the only way that can happen is to win the division. They haven't played at home in the postseason since the Jet loss in 2010. They haven't won a home playoff game since the Colts OT walk off. I'm not being overconfident that they are automatically going to make the postseason, mind you. I just don't want to be satisfied simply with getting in.

So let's keep it going and kill these fucking clowns.

JIC,

RLW
